Level I Avalanche Class

Halfway/Clear Creek SnoPark

The Wallowa Avalanche Center will hold an AIARE motorized Level I course in the Panhandle. The course will be held in Halfway with field sessions out of the Clear Creek SnoPark. This course is specifically designed for snowmobilers and snobikers focused on decision making in the backcountry. It has a 30/70 classroom/field split and emphasizes riding time, teaching the fundamental aspects of the AIARE risk management process with respect to riding in avalance terrain. There is a six-to-one student/teacher ratio, and enrollment is limited to 12. The cost is $495. Contact for more information or to register.

This annual all-you-can-eat event features delicious Dungeness crab fresh from the Oregon coast, the usual side dishes, and pitchers of Coors Light beer. Tickets are $45 each, and are available at Halfway Feed & Seed, Halfway Sober Liquor Store, and Ryder Brothers in Baker City. The line-up for this year's event is set and advance tickets are available! Friday bands are Taylor and the Train Robbers, Brady Goss, Ben Rice & Lisa Mann; Saturday features Ben Burdick & Nicole Christensen, Tularosa, Jeff Crosby and the Refugees, and Lounge on Fire. Tickets are $10 for Friday and $15 for Saturday, now through May 31 when purchased locally at the Hells Canyon Journal office. If purchased online before September 10, they are $15 for Friday and $20 for Saturday, and $20 for Friday and $25 for Saturday if purchased at the gate.
